"Big Data" or "big" data
Ever wondered what Big Data really is, without the hype? What so special in it, and why we handle it differently than any other "normal" data? The workshop brings you one step closer to one of the most popular phrase in data analysis. Through various business cases (even beyond the online world) we clarify the application fields. In general, there are 3 ways to come across with Big Data: (i) Generated by a business process (e.g.: mobile phone calls, banking transactions, recommender systems); (ii) Collecting it (e.g.: collecting sensor information or by using web crawlers); (iii) Generating your own (with computer simulation: e.g. describing a manufacturing process, a call center or even a warehouse). For each cases, we investigate examples. Also we're going to take a deep breath and dive into the popular, and widely used methods and techniques in Big Data: Data cleansing (databases, and basic techniques using easy to learn open source tools); Visualization (graphical representation of your data to see through the chaos: Gephi, and other open source tools); and Analysis (to identify, forecast, and optimize - open source tools also introduced here).
